We have been very extremely busy with searches this year. We recently recovered our 130th victim, and we have brought over 300 people home alive. Requests for our assistance have increased, but our donations are at an all-time low. In today’s economy, it is very difficult for people to pay their own bills, much less donate to charity. Nevertheless, we are in need of immediate cash flow/donations in order to sustain our operations. We want to be able to continue to help families find their loved ones, but it is becoming increasingly difficult with the current state of our funding. If everyone who reads this would donate $1.00, $5.00 or any other amount you can, it will help ensure that we will not have to tell a family we cannot help them because of our finances. Tim Miller made a promise to his daughter, Laura, that he would never leave a family alone. Therefore, we ask you to donate anything you can. Please pass this on to your friends and family. Remember –

“LOST IS NOT ALONE”

The address of the Sagemont Youth Center is 11600 Hughes Rd. @ South Sam Houston Parkway E in Houston, Texas 77089. This is about 7/10 of a mile southwest of the Gulf Freeway. The class will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude around 4:30 – 5:00 p.m. This class will be open to all members of Texas EquuSearch whether you search on foot, ATV or horse. Please bring your horse or ATV. You will have a one hour lunch break. There are several nice restaurants and fast food businesses nearby, but it is recommended that you bring a sack lunch.

On Sunday, June 7, 2009 several Texas EquuSearch members in Florida conducted a field training in the Ocala National Forest which lasted nearly all day. This training was planned by an advance team comprised of Lynn Hinkel, Bill Fitzgerald, Brian Fallon and Rich Giles. Special thanks go to Rich Giles’ son for playing the role of victim in one of the searches.

Many hours were spent preparing for this training to include the placement of evidence, designating persons to play the role of media, family members, and victim. Scenario one was to search in a large grid pattern for a squirrel hunter who had been missing for two days. Scenario two was to search using a three grid pattern to recover a six year old child who had disappeared six years ago. The third scenario was to search in a one grid pattern for a homeless man who had been missing from his last known location for two days. Team leaders were selected and briefed on the scenarios. Teams of five were dispatched to the designated areas to search. A through critique was done following each search.

These exercises proved to be very beneficial to all who participated and there have been many requests for more of this type training. Kudos to all who participated! Job well done!
