09/07/2006 - Two charged in double amputee's death!
Liberty County officials have arrested two suspects in the death of a double amputee. Kenneth Dollery, 22, and 21-year-old Hollis B. Buckley were arrested in Baytown early Thursday, according to the Liberty County Sheriff's Department.
Both have been charged with the capital murder of a war veteran confined to a wheelchair. Police said Barney Ross Goodman was abducted sometime Sept. 1, beaten and robbed of his disability check. He was then threw the double amputee over a bridge and into a creek. The Vietnam veteran managed to crawl out of the creek and up the embankment.
Investigators estimate it took him eight to 10 hours to reach the point where someone could spot him from the highway. It was an off-duty officer who saw Goodman and called for help. Goodman was rushed by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but didn't survive.
Before Goodman died, he was able to give police a description of the suspect and his vehicle. His family is devastated by the cruel manner in which he died.
"Nobody deserves to die like this," said brother Richard Ford. Ford said his brother served in Vietnam and later lost both of his legs to complications from diabetes.
He said Goodman was a good singer who once sang on stage with George Jones and other country stars. "He just lived every day of his life, you know, like it was his last day," said Ford. "We're gonna find out who did this"
Dollery and Buckley are being held in Baytown and are waiting to appear before a magistrate and be transferred to Liberty County Jail.

May 24, 2006 - Convicts up for parole 20 years after Shelley Sikes' murder
Thursday marks 20 years since a Texas City girl disappeared. There are now disturbing new developments.
Shelley Sikes was just 19 when two men admitted abducting her and burying her alive. Sikes had just left a Galveston Island restaurant where she worked.
Her family and investigators question whether there is still justice for Shelley. Twenty years later they remember the victim through pictures and the stories. Shelley Sikes was a college student at the time of her death.
“It’s always just right there under the surface,” said Dana Wild, victim’s sister. “It’s a constant companion her loss,” said Erin Sikes, victim’s mother. Shelly Sikes vanished from her family’s lives exactly 20 years ago Thursday.
“Someway it seems like yesterday and sometimes it’s like a lifetime,” said Erin Sikes. Now, the new ordeal is figuring out how to keep the men investigators said killed her, in prison.
Erin Sikes said, “The public does not deserve to have them unleashed on them.” John King and Gerald Zwarst are up for parole next June.
The men admitted running Shelley Sikes car off the road as she was driving home from the Galveston restaurant where she had been working. They said they abducted her and buried her alive.
Both received life sentences on aggravated kidnapping convictions, but were never charged with her murder, the victim’s body was never recovered.
“We think about it often,” said Mike Guarino, former prosecutor. “I was D.A. for 20 years. I tried a lot of cases but this is one of the very worst.”
Tommy Hanson and Wayne Kessler were the lead investigators in the case.
Hanson still keeps Sikes’ file on his desk, frustrated the men never revealed where they buried Sikes body.
“Through the years we’ve dug up acres and acres of land in this county based on tips we’ve had with no success,” he said. Shelly Sikes’ family may never recover her remains, but they want justice.
Now you may be wondering how the men could be up for parole even though they received life sentences. Well, at the time, a life sentence only meant a mandatory sentence of 20 years.
Shelley Sikes’ family plans to petition the parole board to demand their continued incarceration.

Other Unsolved Cases in Kendrick's area (Key Map 489):
Catherine Hammel has been missing from the same apartment complex as Kendrick Jackson since March 23, 1998. Texas EquuSearch has kept her in mind while searching the immediate area for Kendrick. Catherine's mother was in Houston on March 25, 2006 to hold a memorial Mass so she could "send her poor soul to heaven." Kendrick went missing thirteen days after Catherine's memorial and lived 7 doors down. Ms. Hammel also left behind her 3 year old child when she went missing. We pray that she's still here trying to help us find Kendrick.
Blocks away from where Kendrick and Catherine vanished lived 22 year old Cheryl Henry. Cheryl and her 21 year old boyfriend Andy Atkinson were home from college for the summer and went out on a date the evening of August 22, 1990. Neither of them made it home that night and Cheryl’s mother knew something was wrong and filed a missing person report the following day. Andy’s abandoned car was found late that afternoon with blood inside. The police started an immediate search and found Cheryl’s remains 200 yards away; she’d been brutally stabbed and her throat cut. Early the next day they found Andy’s remains tied to a tree; he’d suffered the same fate. The case is still unsolved. Click link for more of the story.

04/14/2006 -
Over 180 Texas EquuSearch volunteers arrived on Good Friday, April 14, 2006 to help find baby Kendrick. Children that were too young to search decided to collect donations for Texas EquuSearch because they don't want us to stop looking. Teeky Buggs' father along with the family of Raul Mendoza joined the search efforts. Ground searchers, divers, boats, dog teams, helicopters and airplane gliders were deployed to double check the Channelview to Baytown area starting at 8am. Hunter, the lovable golden lab that alerted and helped locate the remains of Teeky Buggs and Nate Hendrickson in December, arrived at 5pm to check out an area of interest. A blanket found by ground searchers earlier today has been ruled out as having any significance.
So far, searchers have encountered wild hogs, snakes, alligators, and have found bags of dead dogs. Tips continue to come in and all are being checked out. Please say a prayer for Kendrick and his family this Easter weekend.

Multiple tips continue to come in and each is being checked out. We'd like to thank Pastor Wayne Moss of the First Assembly of God in Channelview for graciously opening their church to help with the search for baby Kendrick. Special thanks to Eastside Honda for donating 2 ATVs and 2 wave runners that have been invaluable in not only this search, but also for 12 yr old Teeky Buggs found in December and 23 yr old Raul Mendoza found in March. We'd also like to thank the Channelview Fire Department for rushing to the aid a volunteer. The Channelview and Baytown community have been a blessing in our search efforts. Please pray for a miracle and for the success of HPD - we believe! read full story >>

On March 14, 2006, a dear friend and Texas EquuSearch member, Noe Cadena suffered a massive heart attack and slipped into a coma. The doctors at Methodist Hospital told us that his critical status on a scale of 1 to 10, was a 10. His grave condition appeared hopeless. We were bracing for the worst and all prayed for a miracle. The miracle came on March 25, 2006, when Noe called Tim Miller from his hospital bed to tell him how much he loved him. We could not believe it was Noe until his family got on the phone to confirm it was indeed him. His family had never given up on him and were overjoyed that he had not stopped talking since his tube had been removed. On April 3, 2006, Noe successfully underwent quadruple bypass surgery at Methodist Hospital and a full recovery is expected and he's due home within a week. We would like to thank the paramedics who's heroic efforts brought Noe back to life twice and the incredible doctors and staff of Methodist Hospital that came as mercy itself.
There is no doubt that this was a miracle and that our call for angels happened. We anxiously wait to hear all about Noe's great journey.
