07/26/11 — We are proud to announce that Texas EquuSearch member, Robert Powell, has been selected as “Searcher of the Month.” Robert has been a member of Texas EquuSearch for about three years. He has proven himself to be a vital part of our organization’s success in locating missing persons. On July 25th 2011, Robert and his ATV team found a missing League City, Texas man in the bottom of a 30 ft. storm sewer. The man was still alive after being missing for two days in sweltering heat. The man is now recovering in a Houston hospital and is now on a long road to recovery … thanks to Robert. Robert is a life-long resident of the Conroe, Texas area and is the owner & manager of Robert Powell Farmers Insurance Agency in Conroe, Texas. Robert is often accompanied on searches by his beautiful wife Renee. Renee and her parents, Ron & Debbie Overman are also Texas EquuSearch members. Robert’s enthusiasm and dedicated efforts definitely increase the likelihood of a missing person being found … and returned to their families. Congratulations to you, Robert.

Nancy Smith has been selected as our June 2010 “Searcher of the Month.” Nancy is married and the proud mother of a twenty one year-old daughter & twin nine year-old boys. Nancy’s daughter is soon to make Nancy a grandmother. The boys have seen their mother so involved in Texas EquuSearch, that they actually imitate our searchers. Instead of playing the traditional kids games of “Cops & Robbers” or “Cowboys & Indians,” they pretend to be TES searchers looking for a missing person. We’ll probably be seeing them on our team in about nine years. Nancy is an animal lover, and gives her avid support to her children’s high school FFA projects. She also goes out and rescues and rehabilitates injured and/or abused cats & kittens. Nancy is an experienced Team Leader with Texas EquuSearch; taking as many of our training classes as possible, including “Search Reconnaissance” and “ATV Safety.” Nancy has traveled out of town on many of our searches. Searchers that work with Nancy know that she is a calm and likable person, but very serious, and exceptionally conscientious when she is searching for a missing person. Keep up the good work Nancy.

The heart of any organization such as Texas EquuSearch is the volunteers. We have been blessed through the years with an incredible number of people who have enriched our program and touched our lives, as well as the lives of the families that we help on a daily basis. To honor a few of those many volunteers, TES has started a “Volunteer of the Month” program. We hope to highlight just a few of the many, many wonderful, dedicated individuals who serve the communities so proudly and so humbly throughout the country as we continue our mission.

Alvin Tipps was chosen as our first “Searcher of the Month” because of his never-ending dedication to Texas EquuSearch. It doesn’t really matter what the weather is like, or how far it is … Alvin is there with his wife Jan, to help find another missing person. Alvin was born in Waco, and grew-up in the central Texas area. He was the only son born to Ethyl & Boyd Tipps. Alvin worked in machine shops for several years until he fulfilled his own dream and opened his own business. Alvin is well-known for the high-quality products he turns out for his clients. Alvin is the proud father of three daughters, and the step-father of two daughters and one son. He also has fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman until he started searching with Texas EquuSearch. Now his passion is about helping to find missing people. He loves a good laugh and meeting new people. He currently fighting an illness, but hopes to be back real soon.
